NEWS: November 2004

Alex "Patriot" Perez and Joe "I'll knock your head off" Cota competed in the middleweight purple belt and light heavyweight blue belt divisions of the 2nd California Jiu-Jitsu Submission Grappling Championship last weekend. Congratulations to Alex who placed 2nd in his division!

Also, two Ralph Gracie black belts fought in the superfights on Saturday. Joao Cunha dominated his match with some amazing jiu jitsu. Luke Stewart had a very close battle that kept the crowd on its toes. Luke having just recieved his black belt proved he is ready to use it.

Joao Cunha (Ralph Gracie) def. Daniel Souza - (vantage). 4/3 vantage - 4/2 vantage.

Vinicius Magalhaes (Cesar Gracie) def. Luke Stewart (Ralph Gracie) - (vantage)

Grapplers Quest West VI RESULTS:

Welterweight Finals (4-Man Tournament)
Tyrone Glover (Cassio Werneck) faced David Camarillo in a highly anticipated match. Quickly, Glover shot in and got the takedown. Camarillo got to work on the guard, and Glover stood. Camarillo followed, and Glover pressed the action. As Camarillo was pushed out of bounds and into the crowd, he did a cool "crowd surf" as the match paused. The match restarted, Glover scored another takedown, and time expired. Glover won 4-0.

Lightweight Finals (4-Man Tournament)
Diego Saraiva (J-Sect) pulled guard right away and set up a very tight triangle. It looked like the end, but Sandro "Batata" Santiago (Ralph Gracie) was able to defend. Batata worked hard to pass, scoring advantages, and eventually went on to win the match by advantages to claim the Lightweight Tournament title.

Men's No-Gi Advanced Welterweight (160-169.9 lbs.)
1st place Jay Herion (Cobra Kai/Marc Laimon)
2nd place Dave Camarillo (Ralph Gracie/AKA)
3rd place Brant Gibbs (Jackson's Gaidojutsu)
4th place Carlos Condit (Jackson's Gaidojutsu)
